{"id":15100,"date":"2023-04-18T19:30:03","date_gmt":"2023-04-18T19:30:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lynettelockhart.com\/client\/nicaragua-withdraws-approval-of\/"},"modified":"2023-04-18T19:34:29","modified_gmt":"2023-04-18T19:34:29","slug":"nicaragua-withdraws-approval-of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/lynettelockhart.com\/client\/nicaragua-withdraws-approval-of\/","title":{"rendered":"Nicaragua withdraws approval of EU ambassador to country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MEXICO CITY (Reuters) &#8211;     Nicaragua has withdrawn its approval of the European Union&#8217;s ambassador to the country, the Central American nation&#8217;s foreign ministry said Tuesday, after an EU statement calling for a &#8220;return to the rule of law&#8221; in Nicaragua.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the foreign ministry said the decision was due to the &#8220;interventionist, daring and insolent&#8221; position from the EU on Nicaragua.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day, the EU said in a statement it condemned the systemic repression Nicaraguans had faced since nationwide protests broke out five years ago on April 18, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On this sad anniversary, the EU confirms its readiness to support all efforts aimed at a democratic, peaceful and negotiated solution to the protracted political crisis in Nicaragua,&#8221; it added.<\/p>\n<p>Nicaragua has declared the anniversary of the protests &#8220;The National Day of Peace.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nicaragua&#8217;s foreign ministry accused the EU of &#8220;crimes against humanity,&#8221; without citing evidence.
