{"id":14722,"date":"2023-04-18T20:57:09","date_gmt":"2023-04-18T20:57:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lynettelockhart.com\/client\/eu-proposes-1-2-billion\/"},"modified":"2023-04-18T21:03:47","modified_gmt":"2023-04-18T21:03:47","slug":"eu-proposes-1-2-billion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/lynettelockhart.com\/client\/eu-proposes-1-2-billion\/","title":{"rendered":"EU proposes $1.2 billion plan to counter growing cybersecurity threats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Foo Yun Chee<\/p>\n<p>BRUSSELS (Reuters) &#8211;     The European Commission on Tuesday announced a 1.1-billion-euro ($1.2 billion) plan to counter growing cybersecurity threats, underscoring mounting concerns about a series of high-profile hacking incidents.<\/p>\n<p>The growing use of cyber warfare in the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine has also triggered alarm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The EU Cyber Solidarity Act will strengthen solidarity at  Union level to better detect, prepare for and respond to  significant or large-scale cybersecurity incidents, by creating a European Cybersecurity Shield and a comprehensive Cyber  Emergency Mechanism,&#8221; the EU executive said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The Shield will be made up of national and cross-border Security Operations Centres which will use state-of-the-art technology, such as artificial intelligence and advanced data analytics, to detect cross-border cyber threats and incidents.<\/p>\n<p>The Cyber Emergency Mechanism will test entities in highly critical sectors such as healthcare, transport and energy for potential vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n<p>The plan also includes setting up a EU Cybersecurity Reserve consisting of incident response services which will intervene at the request of an EU country or institution in the event of a significant or large-scale cybersecurity incident.<\/p>\n<p>The Cyber Solidarity Act will require agreement from EU countries and European Parliament before it can become law.    <\/p>\n<p>($1 = 0.9136 euros)<\/p>\n<p \/>\n<p> (Reporting by Foo Yun Chee)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lynettelockhart.com\/client\/eu-proposes-1-2-billion\/file-photo-european-union-flags-flutter-outside-the-european-commission-2\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lynettelockhart.com\/client\/wp-content\/uploads\/Reuters_Direct_Media\/USOnlineReportTechnologyNews\/tagreuters.com2023binary_LYNXMPEJ3H0KW-VIEWIMAGE.jpg\" alt=\"tagreuters.com2023binary_LYNXMPEJ3H0KW-VIEWIMAGE\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Foo Yun Chee BRUSSELS (Reuters) &#8211; The European Commission on Tuesday announced a 1.1-billion-euro ($1.2 billion) plan to counter growing cybersecurity threats, underscoring mounting concerns about a series of high-profile hacking incidents.
