{"id":12918,"date":"2023-04-17T10:19:55","date_gmt":"2023-04-17T10:19:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lynettelockhart.com\/client\/tencent-says-its-self-developed\/"},"modified":"2023-04-17T10:25:29","modified_gmt":"2023-04-17T10:25:29","slug":"tencent-says-its-self-developed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/lynettelockhart.com\/client\/tencent-says-its-self-developed\/","title":{"rendered":"Tencent says its self-developed video transcoding chip enters mass production"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Josh Ye<\/p>\n<p>HONG KONG (Reuters) &#8211;     Chinese tech giant Tencent Holdings said on Monday its self-developed video transcoding chip Canghai has entered mass production and is currently supporting services from cloud gaming to video live streaming. <\/p>\n<p>The Shenzhen-based company, best known for its popular messaging platform WeChat, said in a post published online that tens of thousands of its Canghai chips, first revealed in 2021, have been serving clients in areas ranging from cloud gaming to video live streaming. <\/p>\n<p>The Canghai chip &#8220;focuses on solving the impossible triangle of high image quality, low latency, and low cost in video encoding and decoding&#8221;, the company said in the post. <\/p>\n<p>Mostly known as a software company, Tencent unveiled three self-designed chips in 2021, joining other Chinese tech giants in answering Beijing&#8217;s call to help China develop its own semiconductor industry amid a growing number of U.S. sanctions. <\/p>\n<p>Besides Canghai, Tencent has also designed an artificial intelligence chip named Zixiao and a network interface controller chip called Xuanling. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tencent has a long-term plan to research and develop as well as invest in semiconductors,&#8221; the company said\uff0c <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeveral chips have entered the market at scale.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The company said its AI inference chip Zixiao, which aims to accelerate computing efficiency, has been deployed in handling internal businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, its Xuanling chip is now helping the company \u201cbuild the next generation of high-performance network infrastructure&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p \/>\n<p> (Reporting by Josh Ye; editing by Jason Neely)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lynettelockhart.com\/client\/tencent-says-its-self-developed\/china-international-fair-for-trade-in-services-ciftis-in-beijing\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lynettelockhart.com\/client\/wp-content\/uploads\/Reuters_Direct_Media\/USOnlineReportTechnologyNews\/tagreuters.com2023binary_LYNXMPEJ3G0A0-VIEWIMAGE.jpg\" alt=\"tagreuters.com2023binary_LYNXMPEJ3G0A0-VIEWIMAGE\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Josh Ye HONG KONG (Reuters) &#8211; Chinese tech giant Tencent Holdings said on Monday its self-developed video transcoding chip Canghai has entered mass production and is currently supporting services from cloud gaming to video live streaming.
